In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released a final report to the Canadian federal government, that addresses the continuous impacts of residential school survivors and families of survivors. It contains 94 Calls of action that address a wide range of areas including child welfare, education, health, justice, language, and culture. The calls of action are specifically aimed at the Canadian government, but also, educational and religious institutions, civil society groups, and individual Canadians. It is important because it recognizes and brings attention to ongoing wrongs that have been done to Indigenous peoples and gives concrete steps that will help towards reconciliation.
