After School Sports/Arts Initiative, Kamloops BC
I have worked for the After-School Programs in SD73 since 2019. I work as a Leader which means that I run 8- week programs that are 2 hours in length. I usually run two soccer programs in the fall and 2 soccer programs in the winter which works out to 4 programs a year. I love this job because I get to share my knowledge about soccer and my passion for physical literacy with students all around Kamloops. I have gotten the opportunity to meet amazing students and connect with them through physical activity. I have also gotten the opportunity to work through some difficult situations which have taught me a lot.
Classic Woodcraft, Kamloops BC
The first job I got when I graduated high school was at classic woodcraft. I worked here as a general laborer and I have worked here almost every summer since. At this job I get to work with my hands, I am tired at the end of every day, and I have slowly made my way up the ladder so that I now feel like a very valuable member of the shop. I work here part-time during the school year also and I love the escape that it gives me from my school work. I have learned how to work hard, how to be a good co-worker, and how important it is to keep a positive outlook to lift the mood of everyone around you. This job is not related to being a teacher but I really think it helped me develop who I am as a person that will transfer into who I am as a teacher.
Sixth Ave Montessori
In the summer of 2018, I worked at a Montessori Daycare in downtown Kamloops. At this job, my co-worker and I were responsible for up to 25 children over the ages of 5-years-old. We took the children to the park, to the library, to the YMCA, and ran activities at the Daycare. Through this job I also took a Child Development and Guidance-Online Course. This course taught me all about the typical stages of children’s growth from birth-6 years old and how to implement daily routines to encourage children’s development. I really liked this job because I spent 8-hours a day 5 days a week with the same children. It allowed me to build really strong relationships with the children which made me realize how amazing being a teacher could be.
Travel- Trip to Europe
I have gone to school every year scene I graduated high school so I haven’t had the opportunity to travel for an extended period of time. However, in 2019 on Christmas break I went to Europe with my friend and backpacked around for 3 weeks. We went to Amsterdam in Holland, Wallon Brabant in Belgium, Brussels in Belgium, Nürnberg in Germany, Munich in Germany, Baden-Baden in Germany, and Zürich in Switzerland. My favorite part of this experience was the Christmas markets that occurred every night in each city. They were filled with people celebrating and so many cultures. I also just loved walking around each town for hours and hours picking up the small or sometimes large differences from the norm in Canada.
